Schmidt Bros. 4-in-1 Compact Knife & Scissor Sharpener

4-IN-1 SHARPENER INSTRUCTIONS & FAQ

...nervous?
Don't be. We've got you.

Your brand-new sharpener has a three-stage knife sharpener and a one-stage shear sharpener. While you can run your knife through all three stages, we recommend you consider the needs of each individual knife before deciding which stage to start with!

What Should I Know Before Sharpening?
  • The sharpener does not, we repeat, does not work on serrated knives or serrated shears! We recommend the services of a professional for serrated pieces. Place your sharpener on a flat, stable surface before sharpening. Although the sharpener has a non-slip base, the pressure needed to sharpen the knife still requires care.
  • Apply even pressure while pulling your knife or shears through the sharpener.
  • Remember to wash and dry your knives thoroughly both before and after sharpening - before, to keep your sharpener clean; after, to remove particles of metal from the surface of the blade.
Okay, Great, What Are The Four Stages?
  • SHARPEN - For regular sharpening, which shouldn't be mistaken for a full blade reset. Applying medium pressure, pull the knife through two to three times, then move on to the HONE stage.

  • RESET/RESTORE- For full blade restoration when your knives or shears are no longer slicing properly. Applying even pressure, pull the knife through three to four times. When done, move to the SHARPEN stage, then the HONE stage.

  • HONE - For weekly maintenance, fine-tuning, and post-sharpening...well, honing! Applying light pressure, pull the knife through two to three times.

  • SHEARS/SCISSORS - Shears must be sharpened one blade at a time. Applying even pressure, pull one blade through, then the other. Please be careful when holding the shears, as a newly-sharpened blade will cut you!
