Tips and Tricks for your new knife sets

Now that the holidays are over, we wanted to give you the best tips to keep your new knives sharp and ensure they will be here for the long haul. And if you’re reading this and realizing you didn't receive a knife set this holiday season, there is no time like the present to treat yourself! Here are our favorite tips:

Blade Care:

Making sure that your blade is clean and sharp is extremely important, especially if you use your knives daily. Our knives are sharpened to an 18 degree angle on both sides of the blade in our factories. We suggest, to keep your knives super sharp, to hone the blade every two to three times you use the knife. This can be done with our honing rod or the using the fine side of our sharpener. The coarse side of the sharpener should be used at least once a month to reset the blade to its factory angles. Another way to keep the blade as sharp as possible is to never put our knives in this dishwasher. This is because the extreme heat from the dishwasher can damage the blade and the handles. A sharp knife in the kitchen is your best friend and will have you slicing and dicing away with ease!

Handle Care:

For all of our wood handle knives, we recommend to treat them once a month in order to maintain their soft and smooth grip. To do this, take a small amount of mineral oil and use a dry cloth to evenly distribute it over each handle. Let the oil soak into the handles for around twenty minutes. Once done, wipe any excess oil with a clean, dry cloth. For our stainless steel or ABS handled knives, wash them with soap and water as you would the blade!

Storage Care:

Our Midtown and Downtown storage blocks come with an acrylic cover to protect the blades while also displaying the knives. This acrylic can be easily removed for cleaning as needed. To remove the acrylic, take the hex wrench that comes with the blocks and unscrew the acrylic sheet. You can use soap and water to clean both the acrylic as well as the wood block itself. Once done, just screw the acrylic back on and enjoy your freshly cleaned knife block!

All of these tips will ensure that your knives will be extremely well cared for and stay as good as new!
