Essential Knives for a Perfect Summer BBQ

Essential Knives for a Perfect Summer BBQ

With summer in full swing, barbeques with friends and family are commonplace. We don’t know about you, but for us, we love spending summer evenings grilling outside. To have the perfect summer barbeque, you need to have the right tools, and luckily for you, we take grilling very seriously at Schmidt Brothers Cutlery.

What knives do I need?

In our opinion, the following knives are essential for cooking on the grill:

  • Brisket (Slicing) Knife: This knife, as the name suggests, is perfect for slicing and carving brisket, as well as other large pieces of meat, such as turkey or ham.
  • Butcher Knife: This knife is great for cutting meats, such as beef, poultry, and more. The butcher knife also doubles as a carving knife and can be used to trim fat or debone pieces of meat.
  • Chef’s BBQ Knife: A barbeque Chef’s Knife contains a blade that is strong enough to cut through bone, cartilage, raw meat, and more. The BBQ Chef’s Knife is shaped slightly differently than a typical chef’s knife, making it perfect for hefty jobs.
  • Boning Knife: The boning knife contains a narrow and sharp blade that makes it perfect for deboning poultry and fish. Use this knife to butterfly a fish or chicken, as well as trimming and slicing meat.
  • Carving Fork*: While this particular tool is not a knife, it is a necessary tool when barbequing. Use this tool to hold foods securely while slicing, carving, and cutting meat.

Where can I get these knives?

  • Here at Schmidt Brothers, of course! We offer two different BBQ knife sets that include each of the tools featured above. First, our Zebra Wood BBQ 6-Piece Knife Set is stored inside a knife carrying roll so you can take these tools on-the-go. Secondly, our BBQ 6-Piece Knife & Tool Set, exclusively at Walmart, comes with a similar zippered carrying case. In our slightly biased opinion, you can’t go wrong with either set. Happy grilling!
