Burger Season is Here
With summer right around the corner, now is the perfect time to pull out your grill and serve up some burgers! On paper, burgers seem easy to make, but there are several ways that they can end up being a bit disappointing. Keep reading to learn some tips for how to make your burgers perfect every time.
Firstly, it is essential to make sure that each burger is the same size, especially if you are making them for a crowd. We like five-six ounce burgers, in order to achieve medium rare and a juicy patty. For this, we recommend using a food scale to ensure each burger is the exact same. When it comes to meat, we recommend using 80% lean, 20% fat ground beef. You can choose to use leaner meat, but they will not turn out as juicy and moist as the burgers with a higher fat content.
For seasoning, it is best to keep it simple. We recommend using kosher salt and ground black pepper (you can always add more seasonings to whatever sauce you decide to pair the patties with). Always be slightly more generous with the salt than you think is right - beef needs it!
To achieve the right temperature that you are going for, there are a couple tips and tricks. A good rule of thumb is to cook a 6 ounce burger for about four minutes on each side (with medium-high heat). You can use a meat thermometer to ensure that the burger is cooked (125-130 degrees for medium rare). If you are confident and a pro at cooking red meat, you can also use your thumb to test the meat. If it is firm when you touch it (and it stays together), the burger is cooked!
